We are family-owned and run Funeral Directors based in Hertfordshire. Our Head Office is in Potters Bar with a branch at Radlett and we conduct funerals throughout Hertfordshire, North London and beyond.

Every funeral is different. Whether the funeral is religious, semi-religious or non-religious, we are guided by the people who come to us. We listen carefully to the bereaved and honour the wishes of the person who has died. This is probably our greatest strength.

Our profession is suited to a family company. We see working with the deceased and the bereaved as a vocation. Charles Nethercott founded Nethercotts in 1911 in South Mymms on one very important principle namely; to provide a courteous, friendly and caring service to families and supporting them during their time of need. At Nethercott's we are proud to hold true to these founding principles.

The family business has continued through four generations. Today the Company is run by Charles, he is helped by his wife Liz and their daughters Victoria and Charlotte. Charles brings over 50 years' worth of experience to the Company. Victoria re-joining the Company in 2018, Victoria has worked in the funeral profession and related crematoria industry since 2008. Charlotte also joined the Company in 2018 having worked and studied in other fields. Together, Victoria and Charlotte bring a wealth of experience and fresh ideas to the Company.

Women have been arranging funerals and taking care of families at Nethercott's since the very start of the Company. Alice, wife of Charles Nethercott, the Founder, was a pioneering woman finding time to be a mother to five children, the local midwife and Funeral Director! Today, Victoria heads a professional and dedicated team. We are very fortunate in that most of our staff stay with us for many years, from our drivers and bearers to our Funeral Directors, Managers and Company Directors.

As well as arranging funerals the Company also offers bereavement support through SAIFcare and a comprehensive range of memorials, enabling Nethercott's to provide a complete service for families.

Chas A Nethercott & Son Ltd is a founding member of the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (S.A.I.F.), a professional association, consisting of independent, family controlled Funeral Directors.

Every funeral is unique to the person who has passed away and our funeral plans offer flexibility to create a funeral specific to your individual preferences and requirements.

What is a Prepaid Funeral?

A Prepaid funeral is the simplest, most caring and most practical way to remove the financial and emotional worry and responsibility that unexpected funeral arrangements can bring.

Why Prepay for your Funeral?

The cost of a funeral over the last decade has outstripped inflation mainly due to the rising fees for Doctors, Crematoria and Clergy. We guarantee that by paying for your funeral in advance, our fees and services are fully guaranteed. However, the third party costs which we pay on your behalf are outside of our control and we cannot guarantee the full cost of the disbursements and there may be a shortfall at the time of need.

Taking out a prepaid funeral plan can bring many benefits to you and your family. Some of these may include:

  • Alleviates financial burden - one of the benefits of taking out a funeral plan is securing the funeral directors services at today’s price, these are guaranteed to be covered at the time of need if fully paid. Tailor-made funeral plans

If none of the set plans are exactly what you had in mind, we can work with you to create a tailor-made funeral plan that specifically meets your needs. You may find it useful to use one of our pre-existing prepaid funeral plans as a guide to help you begin the process. Then you could add an extra limousine, for example, or decide that you would prefer the service to take place in your local church rather than a crematorium chapel.

Whatever your thoughts, talk to us and we'll guide you through the funeral planning process. We will then check with your preferred funeral director fees and charges in our system that all prices and elements are correct before confirming with you. We will detail all the fees and charges giving you a final amount to pay. Whatever your agreed plans, the funeral directors services are guaranteed to be provided with no further costs at the time of need.
